Independent candidate for U.S. Senate Todd Achilles has collected more than $1.8 in his campaign against incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Risch — the most of any federal election challenger in recent years.
Risch’s campaign has collected a total of around $4.1 million since the beginning of 2025, according to the most recent federal election campaign finance data reported by candidates on Oct. 14. Since 2021, the Risch campaign has garnered more than $5 million total.

ENVIRONMENT
More than a third of Western states’ glacial cover has been lost since 1950s as planet warms
By Alex Baumhardt
Researchers at Portland State University and the U.S. Geological Survey built their findings on an earlier analysis that looked at the lost area and volume among 612 federally recognized glaciers in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming since 1950.
In that analysis, they found that 50 are no longer considered glaciers given their size and condition, including 25 in the Cascade Range and seven in Oregon. Geologists consider glaciers to cover at least 25 acres. And they found two federally recognized glaciers in Washington and Wyoming disappeared entirely.
